This 8 1/2" tall bottle contained some of Lydia E. Pinham's Vegetable Compound, a popular patent medicine for all manner of "female complaints". Lydia Pinkham began commercially producing her remedies in 1875, and a year later her elixirs were mass-marketed and widely received. Apparently her Vegetable Compound became a popular drink during Prohibition times, due to its alcohol content, and even spawned some ribald drinking songs.
