Wampole Bottle

In 1893, William Koch Wampole began his cod liver oil business in Toronto.  Wampole's now makes a wide range of herbal and natural products. What was in this particular 8 3/4" tall bottle I don't know.

  1. I am in an archaeology field school and one of my assignments was to analyse and research this bottle. You're right, there isn't much information on it. But I was able to dig up the following:

    - It is unclear as to whether the bottle is from Henry K. Wampole’s company or William H. Wampole’s company.
    - The bottle is machine made, as there is a side seam that goes from the bottom to the very top, over the lip; and there is embossing on the body. - Due to the aqua/light green colour of the bottle, it is likely that it is dated to around 1910 to the 1920’s. In the 1920’s, the aqua colour tends to appear less and less in glasswork, and by the 1930’s, the colour is rarely used.
    - Most cork closing bottles before the 1930’s were for medicinals, food, inks, and some non-alcoholic beverages. As both Wampole companies made mainly medicinal and health-related products, the bottle was probably used medicinally.

    1. Thanks for your information! That sounds like an interesting assignment. I once had to research patent medicine bottles for a history class; fascinating stuff! Thanks!
